Faith

Things are as ordinary
Or extraordinary
As our faith makes them.
Man without faith
Is a corpse-
Dead to all that
Is alive around him.
He’s unable to see
Beauty, truth and possibility…
And the providence
That is packaged in the smallest gesture.

What conveys our actions?
Wherefrom our words arrive?
What is the origin of our thoughts?
On whose estate is our inner life being lived?
(It should be our own).
We may move about aimlessly…
But thanklessly and without promise-
Now that is to be rudderless.
Your faith is the ground on which you stand
It is the basis of your being
The purpose by which you live.

The Politics of Ignorance

In polarities we seek
Our certainties
We feel that knowledge
Refers to a position
We must occupy.

But knowing is an action
Involving, first and foremost
An arrival to a no-man’s land
Standing in the field of uncertainty
Belonging to nothing
And no one in particular…
Standing on a piece of ground
Solid enough to hold
The weight of your being.

You listen…
Because you know
You know nothing
You receive
Because you’re asking.

The fact of the matter is
That our ignorance
Is vaster than anything
We’ve come to know
And so will it always be.

So fundamental
Is ignorance to our beings
That it thinks
That knowledge must be an acquisition
A position…a rank…an accomplishment.
Something it can use
To decorate itself.
The irony is-
The more you claim to know
The less you do.

What Has Survived, Must Be Lived

To break
Is to collapse
It is to be shattered in pieces;
To be wounded by your own anger.

All external battles
Are fought internally
Leaving you to question
Was it really worth it?

Will this thing within me
Now wounded, now broken
Survive?
Or will it die?

The change that is to come
Is antithetical to what is
Continuity is not life’s virtue
Defiance is.

Death is not
The end of life
But the end
Of what is no longer life.

Bid adieu
To what is not
And say hello
To what is.

Life is not a charming story
Of escapisms
Life is an openness
To being, feeling and dying.

Bury the dead
Nurture the living
Move on. Move forward.
What has survived, must be lived.

Please Don’t Say You’re Sorry

An apology
Is nothing more
Than the reaction
Of the same mind
That expressed itself
Through plot, through outburst
Through accusations
And drama.

Therefore, don’t be mistaken-
An apology is not
A change of heart;
It’s a change of mood.
It’s a quick and effective recourse
In our human society
Intent on having its way.

An aberration is wasted
If it is hastily buried
Under the grain of an apology.
A challenge to our delusions;
To be out of character
Is to get a glimpse
Of the actors
Outside of their act.

Rest in Peace

How vain is individuality!
How vain its pain,
Its sorrows and its hopes!
How vain its self-enclosed life!

The mind is not redeemed
Through indulgence or strict austerities
But through adherence
To the highest intelligence.

Knowing oneself
Entails knowing that
The very idea of oneself
Is a lie.

It’s a skepticism
That’s rooted in a deep faith
Of an existence
That supports one’s own.

Watch things happen
Experience them.
But do not mistakenly believe
That they happen to you.

There is no “you.”
“You,” are just an idea
A persistent pattern
Of thinking and feeling.

Life stands outside
Of thoughts and patterns.
Individuality thinks that life is particular
Whereas life is an all-pervading existence.

Individuality is not
An expression of life
It’s a dead weight
That we carry around with pride.

The expression of life
Is natural
Requiring very little effort
From the mind.

Reign in the mind.
Turn it inward.
Appreciate its introverted-ness
Allow it to rest in peace.

You Are Light

Light cannot be contained
It can only fill up a space
Recognize that you are
The Light;
Not the reflection
Know that
Your sense of ‘I’
Is only relative to your perception
Of the ‘other’
Both are objects
Illumined by the
Light of your consciousness.

Do not hold on to sorrow
Let go of expectations
Know that your needs
Are being met
Stop depriving yourself
Through want
Don’t occupy a position
In order to serve your shadow.
Leave. Bring your light
To other spaces
Travel further knowing that
Your destination is a brighter light
Not darkness.

The Creative Mind

The mind creates
By virtue of its
Agitation and ignorance.

It brings into existence
The false, the temporary
The ill-fated.

Things that tempt,
Excite, threaten, entice
Or beckon us to themselves.

Escapisms-
That we in our ignorance
Believe that we need.

Does the creative mind
Hold a higher possibility?
Is there for it, another way to be?

Would it still create
In silence…
In an abode of peace?

What if it were still
Like a lake…
Reflecting all in its placid calm?

Creation then,
Would be an act of observation
Not an act of restlessness.

The seeing, the observing
The attending to-
Would be the creative act.

No Way to Being

Now I’m seeking
How to be
Without being someone…

A being
Without definition
Without make-believe

I want to
Be able to see
What my ignorance has erected.

I want to stand
Face-to-face
With my incompleteness.

I want to
Get re-acquainted
With my emptiness…

In that emptiness, I sense
I will find that there is
No way to being.

Happenings and Happiness

Have you lost your way?
You wished to be there
But landed up here…

It happens.

You thought you’d never
Lose your touch
But you did…

It happens.

You believed you could live
In accordance with your values
Bet fell short and felt lowered…

It happens.

You found yourself
Behaving in ways
You said you’d never do…

It happens.

Happiness as a goal
Proved to be elusive
You’ve given up the pursuit…

It happens.

Your happiness stands suspended
Between your experiences
And your ignorance

Existence is, it does not happen…

It’s not an event
It’s an am-ness
Unaffected by

What happens.

Happiness

Happiness is being free…
Free to come
Free to go
Free to dream
Free to love
Free to sing
Free to create
Free to try
Free to fail
Free to belong
…and yet free to be.

Assert your freedom.
