For the Love of a Child

For the love of a child
You seek counsel
From the child within you.

For the love of a child
You let go
Of unworthy battles.

For the love of a child
You know that to be able to see things clearly
You will have to see them with love.

For the love of a child
You hope and pray and work
Towards re-building your world.

For the love of a child
You surrender your adulthood
In order to return to naivete.

You Are Light

Light cannot be contained
It can only fill up a space
Recognize that you are
The Light;
Not the reflection
Know that
Your sense of ‘I’
Is only relative to your perception
Of the ‘other’
Both are objects
Illumined by the
Light of your consciousness.

Do not hold on to sorrow
Let go of expectations
Know that your needs
Are being met
Stop depriving yourself
Through want
Don’t occupy a position
In order to serve your shadow.
Leave. Bring your light
To other spaces
Travel further knowing that
Your destination is a brighter light
Not darkness.

Closures

Death doesn’t bring
An end to things
It leaves questions unanswered
Issues unresolved…
Those who are angry
And are left behind-
Are left with a directionless anger.
Where relationships
Were decaying
For want of love and trust-
Death offers no redemption.

Your anger needs to be
Laid to rest in understanding
Your hurt must turn to compassion
And indifference to a higher attentiveness
Your identity needs to dissolve
In His presence.
The dream must end
With an awakening.
We must find release
From the confines of smallness
Into an ever-expanding grace.

Perception

The seen is meaning

That superimposes itself

On the unseen.

Look carefully.

Look beyond the edges

And the boundaries of meaning…

See how it extends itself

How it negotiates

Its freedom from finitude.

Positivity is illusion.

Possibility is promise.

All forms transform.

After you’ve understood

The meaning of a thing

Perceive its meaningfulness.

The Biggest Failing

The biggest failing

Is the inability

To see things as they are

To understand them

For how they are

To accept them

The way they are

And to appreciate them

For what they are.

Education

To educate is to open up

The expanse of the mind

So that for all our assumptions

The right questions we may find.

An education must make you

A seeker not a knower

You must be able to

Over your ignorance cross over.

Pride and foolishness

Often walk hand-in-hand

A true seeker knows

The grounds on which he stands.

That we know nothing

A good education must show

That what needs to be known

Lies beyond what we know.

Not just a fast-track

To worldly success

In the worst of times

It prepares you to be your best.

Education is design

Education is art

It’s the architecture of the mind

Built with inroads to the heart

Before and After

Before I become the truth

Must I be the lie?

Living it day in and day out

With tedious self-consciousness

So many facades to keep up

So many consistencies to maintain

What if the point of keeping appearances

Is only to exhaust me to the point of death…?

…And ‘I’ no longer exist?

Who then, will be?

Who will continue?

And what will continue?

If ‘I’ die

Who will live?

And how will truth live

Without lying?

What Are You Busy With?

To have something to do

Gives you a sense of worth

It gives you purpose

And continuity and

Therefore, an existence.

Time and movement

Are very important

For my sense of self-

And all that ‘I’ embrace…

I must be other than where I am at 5o’clock.

New places, new people, new projects

All of these make my life

So meaningful, so interesting, so glamorous.

Photographed memories of my day

Leave me with an entertaining sense of accomplishment.

Now’s the time to ask:

Is life the story of one person?

Can life remain imprisoned within a personality?

Without memory and pattern

Who am I? Who are you?

What new patterns are you forming?

What new memories are being created?

What new plans are being made?

As life awaits your homecoming

What are you busy with?

Durations

Allow time

To take you on a walk

To give your thoughts

A duration.

See yourself

Let go of ideas

And stand free of

Their certainties.

Definitions too

Are not permanent

Love has revealed to me

Other meanings.

The future

Becomes less important;

Plans and designs get replaced

By responses.

Today’s importance

Is self-evident…intrinsic;

Small matters that suggest

Little matters.

Say a prayer

Wash your hands and stay in

Apparently, that’s a good way to end

A pandemic.

Value Yourself

Let go

Of all the excess of life

That has stuck to you

Pare it down.

Remove. Trim.

Give away.

Walk away from sounds

That drown

Your own voice

Reject words

That are untrue

Coming from you.

Listen to your silence

Look at what’s left

When all is gone.

Befriend that residue

Cherish it;

Treasure it.

Aloneness

Is not to be foolishly grieved;

It is to be intelligently valued.

Don’t compromise the time

With yourself

For some base company.

Know where

True fulfilment lies

Value yourself.
