Liberate Yourself

Liberate yourself
From the patterns of the mind
From self-doubt, worry and circuitous thought.
The mind is a self-enclosed space
It won’t take you anywhere
Beyond the illusions and stories it creates.

Liberate yourself
From a false education
That makes you believe the myth
Of The Powerful, The Successful,
The Great and the Best
And tells you that you must serve
These false Gods.

Liberate yourself
From petty desires…from hunger
Free of desire and greed,
you will commit no wrong.
The search for validation
Is the most regressive thing
For the spiritually awakened.

Liberate yourself
For no God, no Guru,
No rock concert, no art
No currency, no stock market
No institution, no government…
Nothing created by the mind of man
Can liberate you.

All Silences Aren’t the Same

Our feelings are often more complex
Than what our words can express.
Language has its limitations;
Words fall short.
Without words, the feeling
Now recognised, but unexpressed
Creates a dimension of stillness.
In that stillness
Silence re-enters your life…
Not as fear
Not as indifference
Not as a flimsy reverence
To a false greatness
But as wisdom.

Life Needs You

What do you do
When the road ahead
Is neither familiar
Nor clear to the eye?
Do you take the road
You’ve always taken?
Or, do you continue
Down this unfamiliar road
Relying on the faith
That life will convey you
Where you are meant to be?

One poses the risk of reaching
Nowhere beyond the known…
The other, poses the risk
Of the new being disastrous.
If the roads that we walk on
Are paved by the decisions
We take every moment, every day
Trust in your ability to choose well
Existence tends to favour the brave
After all, life is also seeking
Self-discovery through you.

Trust The Pain of Not Knowing

Suspend your judgement
Be open to learning
Don’t pretend to know
Before you come to know.
Read life; question the books
Resist the temptation to become knowledgeable
Refuse to learn what is taught.

To learn, one must surrender
And have faith that such surrender
Will not be in vain
For even though you may appear foolish
And lose much.
Knowledge will live within you as light
Not as vacuousness or regret.

Why Do You Stay?

Why do you stay?
Why do you continue on this way?
Why haven’t you sought out ‘the better’?
Is it because you’re committed?
Is it because you have nowhere else to go?
Is it because you have no other desire?
Is it because you’re comfortable?
Or is it because you’re still trying to understand
What is it that you seek?

The difficulties you’re dealing with
The roadblocks that keep you from reaching
The challenges you meet everyday
And the battles you’ve got to fight
The theft of your time and your energy
The questions raised on your worth and value
Why do they fail to deter you?
Why are you still here? What are you seeking?
Why do you stay?

To Be, You Must be Free

What keeps you occupied?
What keeps you up?
What keeps you going?

-Desire.

Designed to breed dissatisfaction
And to keep you perpetually chasing fulfillment
Your desires thrive by robbing you of peace.
You experience an emotional hunger, thirst and want
And therefore, by extension also, anxiety, fear and anger
Believing that these are the price
You must pay to reach bliss and tranquility.
You believe that the achievement of peace requires ambition.

But tranquility is a heaven that is yours to claim
It need not be sought through a climb
Or through consumption.
Peace is a way of life
Unencumbered by conditions
On that way, the mind is quiet.
It has learned how to be still.
On that way, work is an offering
Not an endurance of enslavement.

On this path love alone exists
Freed from desire
You can now simply be.

Journeys

Do we pass through?
Do we arrive at?
Do we return to?
Or, do we revert to?

Perhaps the true purpose of change
Is to reach the changeless.

This is a passing through…
An arrival…
A return…
And a revert to…

A journey re-acquaints you
With yourself.

What is Beyond is Here

There is both- a continuous
And a discontinuous, ever- present aspect
To our lived experience.
That which is subject to change
Must live in the realm of continuity.
It must abide by time’s tenses.
It holds memories of the past
And hopes for the future.
It dreams of favourable change
And growth and prosperity
And a fulfilment that evades it.
It forges ahead (sometimes meekly)
Doing, thinking and sacrificing consciously
To bring into being a better tomorrow.
In a trajectory marked by impermanence and chance
It seeks certainty and permanence.

However, that about us which is ever-present
Is free of the past and the future.
As pure awareness, it enables us to see
What we think, how we feel, what we do
And why we do what we do.
This awareness is not subject to change.
It does not need continuity to exist.
It is what is ever-real and ever-new.
Time cannot change or destroy it.
It is what remains
In and through changing times…
Even when new values replace the old…
Even as things seem to worsen rather than improve…
Even when ideologies are destroyed
And grand institutions and empires collapse.

This realm of awareness
Needs no new hopes
It does not need a “new” year
It does not need any effort
Or any luck; it requires no strategy.
For it’s not a built castle
And it’s not a tale that needs telling
Or a story that needs a new plot.
It has lived through the ages
It carries with it the wisdom of a life
That has seen much.
Trust it. It is the silence and the temple
That receives your prayers.
It holds your tears as they fall
And is the light that by which you can see
That you are engulfed in darkness.

May that which is continuous in you
And is travelling through the days, weeks and years
And is hoping for the better to arrive
Before it is destined to end…
Be blessed by that which holds that possibility
That heaven…that power of the true self
That is real, sovereign and ever-fulfilled.

The Truth is in the Paradox

Are you conflicted between
Absolute moral correctness
And the relativity by which you are
Bound when fulfilling your role?

Or

Between a love that has
Stood the test of time and
An attraction that is tidal and torrential
And hard to explain?

Or

Any such fracturing in your being
For what you had thought was unassailable
As the true, the good and the absolute?

Truth stands before us in plain sight
But we’re not able
To accept it.

And so we frame theories
And philosophies and credos
To guide us through the darkness.

But the human being is not a machine
It rarely learns what you
Set out to teach it.

Also, the discovery of truth
Is not contingent on
Making the right choices.

It’s not the reward
For a life piously lived.
Truth is the ultimate reality.

The truth is a light
That dawns on you
When you let go of darkness.

There’s nothing to choose.
Where you stand
Is a choice already made.

Forge ahead fearlessly
Fulfil what has been started
Don’t seek to escape the conflict.

The truth does not lie
On the side of the winner
Victory and defeat cancel each other.

The truth is in the paradox.

Get Real

The fancier the garb on the body
The less refined is the weave of the mind.

The plusher the house
The more vacant the home.

The wider your social circle
The greater is your need for a friend.

The more jet-setting your lifestyle
The less in touch you are with life.

The more degrees you acquire
The more fundamentally ignorant you become.

Life cannot be lived
Through the medium of consumption.

The void you experience
Must be entered, not filled.

In the void, you must instate your faith
In this void you must meet with wisdom.

In this void you will come to see
That refusal is the final word on elegance.
