I thought I had freedom.
I could move any which way I wanted
The day was mine and I could use it any way I wished
I could sing any song
I could say what I feel
I could behave any which way I wanted
I could write about what was on my mind
I could choose my vocation
I could work whenever I pleased
I could create anything I wanted to
I could live my life my way.

It turns out that others thought the same way
Their behaviour upset me
Their songs were meaningless rhymes
Their writing was rage-baiting
Their work– self-serving and mediocre.
It was frustrating to make room for them…
Freedom, I’ve understood, needs limits
Co-existence demands space for all
Freedom for it to be meaningful, needs culture..
Culture requires discipline and beauty.
True freedom comes from self-restraint.
